"Barry to Lead Greencross Pet Wellness into its Next Growth Phase as Wahby Transitions to Advisory Role"

Barry to lead the next phase of growth for the pet wellness company, following Wahby’s impactful leadership and dedication to the company’s transformation.

Greencross Pet Wellness Company has announced that Lucas Barry will become the Chief Executive Officer effective January 1, 2025, succeeding George Wahby, who has chosen to step down from his role to focus on his family and health. Barry, who has been with the company for six years as Group Chief Operating and Financial Officer, is poised to lead Greencross into its next chapter of growth and innovation.

Wahby, who has been instrumental in Greencross’s transformation since 2019, will continue to contribute to the company as a Non-Executive Director and Advisor, ensuring a smooth transition while remaining a significant shareholder. In his farewell message, Wahby expressed pride in the company’s achievements, particularly its growth and the successful expansion of its customer base. He also expressed confidence in Barry’s ability to lead the company and bring Greencross’s vision for the future to fruition.

“I am excited to take on the CEO role and to continue the company’s success,” said Barry. “Greencross will remain committed to our strategy of growth, innovation, and delivering exceptional care to our clients and their pets. We are entering an exciting new phase, and I look forward to working alongside our talented team to create an even happier world through pet care.”

As Group Chief Operating and Financial Officer, Barry has played a key role in expanding Greencross’s operations, including its network of clinics and veterinary hospitals. He has also been integral to the company’s strategic direction, overseeing vital areas such as Strategy, Commercial, IT, Property, and Finance.

Greencross Chairman Joel Thickins praised Wahby’s leadership, highlighting his success in driving sustained revenue growth, increasing the company’s customer base by over 50%, and elevating Greencross’s position in the competitive pet wellness market. Thickins also noted that Barry’s appointment reflects the company’s strategic vision for the future, with his deep expertise in operations and commercial growth making him the ideal candidate to lead the company forward.

Under Wahby’s leadership, Greencross has seen impressive results, including a 50% increase in its customer base, reaching over 2.8 million clients. The company’s omnichannel capabilities have also grown significantly, with online sales rising from under 5% in 2019 to more than 20%. Additionally, Greencross has strengthened its veterinary workforce through partnerships with leading educational institutions, ensuring continued innovation and excellence in pet care.

As Barry prepares to take the helm, Greencross Pet Wellness Company is well-positioned for continued success and expansion, with a committed leadership team and a clear vision for the future of the pet care industry.
